Justin Helman founded Helmans Farm with a vision to provide customers with pork that tastes the way it should - rich, flavorful, and raised with care. With a background in agriculture and a passion for heritage breeds, Justin has built a reputation for producing some of the finest pork in the region.
"These pigs have had a great life," Justin explains. "We believe that happy, healthy animals produce the best meat. That's why we raise our pigs naturally, with no antibiotics or hormones, in open spaces where they can root, play, and just be pigs."

Heritage breed pigs take longer to raise (8-12 months vs. 5-6 months for commercial pigs), allowing them to develop characteristic flavor, marbling, and tenderness. They also have better fat profiles with higher levels of beneficial omega-3 fatty acids.

Heritage breed pigs like Mangalitsa and Berkshire are traditional breeds raised before industrial agriculture. They grow more slowly, develop more marbling and flavor, and are better adapted to outdoor living. Mangalitsa pigs have a unique woolly coat and produce meat with incredible marbling. Berkshire pigs are prized for their dark, flavorful meat.
Heritage breed pork has more marbling than commercial pork, which keeps it juicy and flavorful. Because of the superior fat content, heritage pork stays tender even when cooked to proper temperatures. It's perfect for grilling, roasting, smoking, and slow-cooking.
Heritage breed pork offers better fat profiles with higher levels of beneficial omega-3 fatty acids and monounsaturated fats compared to conventional pork. The natural diet and stress-free environment also contribute to healthier, more nutritious meat.
Season thick-cut chops with salt and pepper. Sear in a hot skillet with butter, 4-5 minutes per side. The marbling keeps them incredibly juicy!
Rub shoulder with spices. Roast at 275°F for 6-8 hours. Perfect for pulled pork with amazing flavor.
Remove membrane, apply dry rub. Smoke at 225°F for 5-6 hours. Heritage ribs have incredible natural flavor.
